Number One of the Bermuda Triangle
It's said the season is the Bermuda Triangle of Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Year's.
For many of us, these can be the most challenging times of the year, leading so many into addiction and trauma.
So we feel very fortunate that our first true vacation together is officially a success. We had smooth flights to and from San Francisco together. We travel well together: the handling of bags and stress of checking in lines, flight numbers, forgotten items, ways we slow each other down---well, I slow us down looking for things that could have been better placed. We breathe, let go and move on. We keep calm and carry on with love.
We did so much that drew our souls into orbit: touched the Pacific, took the Larkspur ferry to the city, drove up to Mount Tam, honored the Muir Woods, ferried across to Alcatraz, took in the Japanese Tea Garden, walked the lobby of the de Young museum, visited the hedgehog at the San Francisco Aquarium, ate gourmet Indian Street Food, viewed the Golden Gate Bridge from double-decker tour bus front seats, in fact saw much of the city from that lovely moving perch, climbed the stairs to Coit Tower, lunched at the Slanted Door, walked Pier 39 and picked up tchotchkes, dined at harvey's in the Castro and learned about our history at the LGBT Museum. And we shared our travels each night with Paul and Mila and sometimes we cooked yummy meals together.
Thanksgiving was a blast; we helped a young woman get a decent couch in her living room and then helped our Thanksgiving hosts mash potatoes, set a gorgeous table and eat a great meal after a most moving prayer for all of us. Mila and I made pecan cranberry pie and cheesecake with the noble assistance of our boyfriends--both came out wonderfully. And of course, we sat down to the obligatory Scrabble game--I learned I'm a little too cutthroat...will have to dial that back.
We had a couple surprises: such as the parking fees at JFK...never do that again, but overall we did alright expense-wise. We did it within our spending bandwidth, which I'm inspired to increase so we can do this again and again. It was truly a perfect vacation and really needed--we both feel energized and alive to the awe-inspiring world designed by something bigger than anything we can imagine on our own. Our generous brother and his girlfriend put us up and took care of so many of the transportation and other details that we were really able to just enjoy the city, the energy, the food and good sleep. We really enjoy each other, and we bonded with Paul and Mila and we got to know some of their close buds out west. I think we're all going to make a great family for each other.
We're certainly building a beautiful life. Life's good.
