Day One -- The Mother Visit
Well that was surprising. I had a nice time. My aunt was 40 minutes late to pick Mom up at the airport...I guess it's that ol' Jamaican time thing. And she LOVES my Mom...so that was interesting.
I made a lovely lunch and we enjoyed that at my place. We had a nice time.
AND my cousin joined us and we drove to Trader Joe's and the fish market. My family is very interesting around food and herbs and spices and teas and special concoctions. So my Mom of course packed cooked food and brought for my aunt and I. Never mind we both have fully stocked fridges and we were going grocery shopping AND she brought a snack for the plane. I'm just saying...and I'd cooked.
They all kept trying to give me food. And there's almost an insult in refusing. I'll have to unpack that later. There's cultural stuff in there somewhere.
Lovely time. Emotionally exhausting...and they asked about James. That threw me for a loop and I'm still reeling. Time to watch a movie and unwind. Glad she's staying with my aunt and for a moment, I'm glad my aunt's right here and they are downstairs to say hi anytime. AND I'm definitely going to CT tomorrow.
